ĭuring this time, Kleiner appears to have become a widely recognized scientist, seeing that he is on the front cover of the magazine Popular Scientist, apparently in an article called "Next level of quantum physics", as well as the author to at least one book, From Here to There in Under a Second, likely about teleportation. Kleiner would later take employment in the Sector C of the Black Mesa Research Facility, where he worked with Eli Vance and security guard Barney Calhoun. It appears that the two started their friendship already back then, and that Kleiner was quickly impressed by Freeman. Kleiner first worked as a professor at MIT, where he was one of the mentors of Gordon Freeman. So as it stands, I think that game is out of reach, but, yeah, that would kind of be the dream game to bring to the Quest, but I fear it’s probably never going to happen. So I think there would be some risks entailed with trying to pick that up. I don’t know how they’ve done it, but it’s, you know, it’s not like a truly open source engine port. There’s somebody who’s managed to do some sort of Android port somehow. You know, it’s one of those games that we get asked about all the time. And also I got halfway through playing it on the original dev kit, but never finished it. Because I’m slightly ashamed to admit I’ve never played all the way through it. The game I would most like to do, but I think will probably never happen is Half-Life 2. There’s not many games studios where they actually open source their engine software.
After that point, I think, id software stopped doing that.
As far as modern games go, I think Doom 3 is kind of - I’m quite happy to be corrected - but Doom 3 is probably one of the most recent well-known popular games that actually has its engine code open source. And is there a dream game that you would like to see ported? Or have you already gotten there?ĭrBeef: The problem is there’s a dependency on the actual software being open source.
